Emil Alexov | Listen to Your Genes
What if you could chat with your DNA to obtain advice about your health, your education, your career? Would you? This future may not be as far away as you think.
Emil is a Professor at the Department of Physics at Clemson University and President of Predicagen LLC. He completed his PhD in Physics in 1991 from Sofia University (Bulgaria) and postdoctoral studies from City College of New York and Columbia University (New York). Before coming to the US, he was a visiting fellow at RIKEN, Japan’s largest comprehensive research institution renowned for high-quality research in a diverse range of scientific disciplines.
Dr. Alexov’s current research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms of human diseases associated with human DNA variants, and revealing the role of electrostatics in various phenomena occurring in Molecular Biophysics. His work has resulted in more than 130 scientific publications and numerous talks presented at national and international conferences. Since 2012, he has co-organized a symposium at the annual meeting of American Chemical Society; last year he organized a prestigious Gordon Meeting on Human DNA variations and diseases. He strongly believes that understanding the effects of human DNA variations and their association with diseases will pave the way for better diagnostics and therapy (typically referred to as Personalized Medicine), ultimately resulting in better health care.
