Get ready to be blown away by David Benedict, a young mandolin master, as he unzips musical boundaries by blending tradition and innovation in his TEDxGreenville 2014 performance.
A Clemson native, David confesses to having a few easily recognizable influences: the intoxicating sound of the mandolin and Calvin and Hobbes. Certainly, these influences aren’t typical, but David ‘fessed up to having reoccurring fantasies of creating a comic strip of super heroes. Maybe one of these heroes plays a mandolin?
David is immersed in his music; if he’s not composing, he’s performing or providing instruction. While he’s a capable multi-instrumentalist, his main love is the mandolin. In 2013 David graduated with a degree in Mandolin Performance, having such skilled and well-known mandolinists as Mike Marshall and Matt Flinner as his role models and instructors.
Since 2009, David has been touring and recording with the Celtic Folk band, Emerald Road, but earlier this year, he released his solo debut album, Into the True Country, which he may just have copies of to sign for you after his performance on April 11.
