Melisa Holmes, MD
Melisa is a mom of three, an ob-gyn physician, and the founder of Girlology & Guyology, a company that offers parent-child educational programs, a series of books for adolescents, and a web community devoted to improving knowledge and family communication about puberty and emerging sexuality.
She received a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia and earned her MD from the Medical College of Georgia. Following her internship and residency at The Medical College of Virginia, Melisa joined the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) where she held joint appointments as an Associate Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics and was listed among the Best Doctors in America. She has authored 4 books for adolescents and written numerous scientific papers and textbook chapters, primarily on topics related to pediatric and adolescent gynecology and care of the sexual assault survivor. As a nationally recognized advocate for adolescent health, she has served on the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologist’s Committee on Adolescent Health Care and worked with National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. She is the current Board Chair for the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
Melisa left clinical practice in 2009 to devote her time to growing Girlology & Guyology and enjoying time with her husband and children on their “farmette” in Simpsonville.
