Kimberly Witherspoon’s practice focuses on public finance in the Greenville office of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A.
She works closely with senior members of the public finance team as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, credit enhancer’s counsel, and corporate counsel in multiple financial structures related to municipalities, counties, nonprofits, hospitals, public utilities, special purpose districts and universities.
EDUCATION. Ms. Witherspoon earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2009. She was a Law Center Scholar, the Director of Appellate Advocacy, a member of the Black Law Students Association, and a D.C. Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign pro bono tax preparer. She was active in the Law Center’s Appellate Litigation Clinic where she contributed to briefs submitted to the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. A native of New Zion, South Carolina, she received a B.A., magna cum laude, in History and Political Science from Furman University in 2006, where she was a member of the National Scholars Honor Society and recipient of the Herman W. Lay Scholarship.
EXPERIENCE. While in law school, Ms. Witherspoon was an intern at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for Magistrate Judge Dianne Brenneman and Magistrate Judge Michael McCarthy. She also served as a law fellow for U.S. Representative and House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn. After graduation, she served as an intern to The Honorable R. Bryan Harwell, U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
