Frequently Asked Questions

What types of presenters are appropriate for TEDxGreenville?
TEDxGreenville talks are all about ideas, fresh and unique, and their potential to catalyze positive change in individuals, teams, communities… and perhaps even the world. TEDxGreenville performances, like their speaker counterparts, also bring something innovative to the stage. To more deeply understand TED and TEDx, browse TED Talks. The choice of speakers and performers to invite to TEDxGreenville is directed by TED recommendations and content guidelines as well as our own desire to spur thought, discussion, and discovery in our South Carolina communities.

I’m really passionate about a particular nominee. Will it help their chances of being chosen if multiple nominations are submitted?
No, nominations don’t count as “votes.” Each nominee’s proposed talk or performance is carefully examined by the program team. The number of nominations is not a factor in any way.

Do I have to think about how my nominee may fit into the theme for this year’s event?
No. Each year, the theme embraces a wide array of topics and perspectives. It’s simply a way to spin TED ideas for our local audience.

Do I have to know the person I want to nominate?
No, but it may be helpful since you’d be able to make sure they are interested and available to present on the date of the event as well as provide their contact information.

What happens after I nominate a speaker or performer?
You’ll receive an automatic confirmation after clicking “Submit” which lets you know that your nomination was received. Throughout the speaker and presenter selection process (which takes many months), our program team will get in touch with your nominee to ensure that they are interested and able to be part of the event, and to find out more about their prospective topic or performance.

How will I know if my nomination is selected?
The final speaker and performer selections will be announced prior to the big event in Spring 2017. The announcement date is to be determined.

May I nominate more than one person?
Yes, please do!

I want to speak at TEDxGreenville, but my usual talk runs 50 minutes. Can I get a longer slot than 18 minutes?
We strictly enforce the clock for all speakers and performers. TEDx is the place to condense your ideas into a compelling 18-minute talk that communicates your best idea. We have found that a carefully crafted presentation of this length can have astonishing impact.

May I nominate myself?
Absolutely. Tons of people do.

What do you pay speakers?
TEDxGreenville does not pay speakers. We do, of course, offer a covetable pass to the conference. An additional benefit of speaking at TEDxGreenville is that your presentation will be a TEDxGreenville talk, part of our beautifully produced, broadcast-quality video series.
