How about combining Walt Disney’s philosophy for creating memorable experiences with educational objectives and putting it all in today’s classrooms? Sounds like a classroom that we’d all love to visit, doesn’t it?
In his encore TEDxGreenville 2013 talk, Imagineering Education, Thomas Riddle shares his idea of how to begin making this a reality. A veteran teacher, Thomas knows how much better and memorable an experience can be…even in the classroom, when we allow people to play, to imagine and to have fun doing it all. He asks why adults stop playing and throws us a challenge to begin playing again. Thomas gave an encore presentation of his talk at the December 17, 2013, TEDxGreenville sold out salon.
Another proponent of the Walt Disney philosophy is Fred Lee, in his TEDxMaastricht 2011 talk, Patient Satisfaction or Patient Experience, in which he proposes that hospitals might benefit by providing a positive and memorable experience for their patients, instead of good service. Lee has also published a best-selling healthcare leadership book, If Disney Ran Your Hospital, 9 1/2 Things You Would Do Differently, for which he received the 2005 Book of the Year Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Perhaps Walt Disney was on to something? Fred Lee and our own Thomas Riddle seem to agree.
