“Poetic movement that is fluid and complex!” This is how TEDxGreenville performer and speaker guide, Caroline Caldwell, describes the moving art of the Naina Dewan Dance Company of Greenville, South Carolina.
Director Naina Dewan is a storyteller as much as a dancer. Her focus for the company’s performance on the TEDxGreenville stage will be to share “…the stories that our bodies hold,” looking at their contemporary style of movement as “…storytelling embodied.” She hopes that the audience will leave with a genuine desire to “…explore, appreciate and see the art of dance; and to find ways to learn about, connect with and embrace—embody—their own body’s intelligence and the movement in their life.”
Naina and her team of storytellers want you “To be moved, to be uplifted, to discover or re-discover the beauty of the heart and the art of dance.” Exhilarating!
TEDxGreenville Curator Lisa Marie Corley says, “I’m a huge fan of dance, and was thrilled to learn that a new contemporary company is being born right here in Greenville. The program team knew instantly that we wanted this troupe on our stage. They are mesmerizing and thought provoking — I doubt many people outside the huge metro areas have experienced live performances of this breed.”
This modern dance company presents themes in a way that stretch the imagination and make you want more. The dance draws you in, and, just when you think you know where it is going, it doesn’t, and you are pleasantly surprised at the direction. Naina hopes to influence us to begin exploring “The individual and collective stories we hold in our bodymind.”
Come prepared to move forward in your life with an awakened sense of dance and how it can help in the exploration of your own stories.
