Think you know ballet?
Ha! Think again. Carolina Ballet Theatre (CBT) has a ROCK-YOUR-WORLD performance in store for TEDxGreenville 2014: Unzipped.
Anita Pacylowski-Justo, ballet mistress, says that artistic director Hernan Justo has been working with the resident professional dance company to plan an innovative, heart-pounding, audience-immersive experience that you do not want to miss this Friday.
Ahem. Be warned that an extra skip in your step or a youthful, mischievous gleam in your eye may result. TEDxGreenville will not be held responsible for subsequent shenanigans.
With a combined 50 years of professional dance experience between them, Hernan and Anita are the key drivers of CBT’s mission to promote and expand the art of dance. Founded in 1972, the troupe is a little bit classical ballet, a little bit contemporary dance, and a little bit arts education. The talented duo often guides their dancers to more innovative and ‘unzipped’ performances, sometimes inspired by pop music. In their 2012-2013 season, Hernan and Anita presented a variety of dance productions, including the original ballet “Arabian Nights: Sinbad’s Adventures” and the high-energy “Beatle Juice” which featured music by The Beatles.
Paul Savas, executive & artistic director for Greenville’s Warehouse Theatre nominated the dance troupe for their TEDxGreenville appearance.
“You can’t experience dance online,” he says. “You can’t experience it on TV. Like live theatre, the only way you can truly experience the beauty of human expression when the body moves through space is live and in the flesh. Greenville is more than lucky to have the professional corps of dancers that the Carolina Ballet maintains.”
Just you wait, TEDx-ers.
